Volume 2: Planning and Permits
How Long Does It Take to Build a Steel Building in Central Oregon?

How long it takes to build a steel building: at CC Steel, the average is 12 to 16 weeks from signed contract to completed building. Permits and site readiness before the contract can add time.
The sequence
1. Site visit, design, and quote 2. Permits (often started before or alongside design) 3. Contract signed and deposit 4. Manufacturing and shipping, typically 6 to 8 weeks 5. Site prep and foundation poured while the steel is being made 6. Steel erection 7. Final inspection and walkthrough
Erection is one of the shorter phases. One CC Steel shop project, a building for a customer's hobby Jeep work, was erected in 3 weeks after the foundation was done and the steel arrived.
What usually slows things down
- Permit delays
- Design changes after the quote
- Surprises in the soil or site
- Missing soil information
- Winter weather or poor access
Rural properties can take longer when utilities, driveway access, or grading are unresolved.
What speeds things up
The owner controls the land, the use is clear, the soil is known, and the design is not changing. Having permits in hand before you sign helps most.
Bottom line
Work backward from the date you need the building, and start the permit and site work early. See the best time of year to build or request a quote.
Planning a steel shop, barn, or commercial building?
The fastest way to get a useful answer is to request a free quote. CC Steel can look at your actual site, building use, and scope instead of forcing you to guess from a blog post.
