Volume 2: Planning and Permits
Best Time of Year to Build a Steel Building in Central Oregon

The best time to build a steel building in Central Oregon is to do design and permitting in fall or winter, then pour the foundation and erect the steel in spring and summer.
The steel itself takes time to arrive. Manufacturing typically takes 6 to 8 weeks, and CC Steel's average from signed contract to finished building is 12 to 16 weeks. Working backward, a contract signed in winter lets the foundation go in as the weather improves and puts the building up in the milder months.
Winter is useful for planning. Design, budgeting, and permit coordination do not need good weather.
Building in cold months is possible, but concrete needs protection when temperatures are near or below freezing, and snow, frozen ground, and muddy access roads complicate site work. Rural sites with unfinished utility work are the most exposed to seasonal delay.
If you want a finished shop or barn by the end of next season, start the permit and design work now. See how long a build takes and permits in Oregon, or look at CC Steel's agricultural steel buildings.
